Hagia Sophia is just about the most important building in world history.
The focal point of Hagia Sophia for the Christians would be the apse where the altar stood in the time of the Byzantines. For Muslims the holiest spot would be the minrab, the focal point for prayer. In Hagia Sophia the minrab and the apse are in the same area.
So, what did I find right at the very most important spot in the most important building.
Yes, two CATS warming themselves by the lights on a cold day! Those are some wise cats.
I bet 99.9% of american high school graduates have never heard of the Hagia Sophia. What a tragedy.
ReplyDeleteThe Hagia Sophia is really, really beautiful. (:
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! I am always happy when one more person gets to see Aya Sofya. We also love going to the Blue Mosque after evening prayers, when they're vacuuming the rugs and children do somersaults across the floor. And don't miss the Church in Chora (the Kariye Cami)! If Aya Sofya didn't exist, the Kariye Cami would still be a reason to go to Istanbul (as if you needed one).
ReplyDeleteAnd who am I? I'm Melissa Battis' mom.
I have a feeling that's exactly where Monkey and Bella would land if they visited the Hagia Sophia!
